Aurora B. has been in business since 2000, previously known as Breath of Wind. The business was started to sell and share Jim’s 30 year collection of opals and gems.
Jim started collecting rocks when he was a boy. Geology was always a love of his and he spent 2 years in college learning Geology. Opals caught his eye when he was 10 years old when a family he was staying with started collecting Oregon Opals in eastern Oregon. His love took him all over the United States and Australia looking for the perfect opal.
Jim spent 28 years in the military and spent much of that time as a helicopter crew chief in the Air Force and Army. He became disabled in 1996. This allowed him time to follow his passion for rock hounding and traveling the western United States in search of gems. Over the years he has amassed a considerable collection of uncut opals and gems
Jim learned opal cutting and polishing in the early 1990’s from George Bolauge, a local opal cutter who had cut and polished opals for several decades. Jim started opal cutting and polishing for his own jewelry, became a jeweler and taught jewelry and art metal classes for a short time.
He has made many opals cuttings over the years for friends and relatives but not as a full time business. Aurora B. as a web business is the start of a brand new venture for Jim and his wife Shanti.
We believe that the opals and gems presented here are beautiful examples of what Jim and I fell in love with many years ago. Each opal is carefully studied to ensure the best cutting and polishing. Many hours of painstaking time goes into each opal as they are as unique as individuals, as we are as people.
We want to enable folks who want to obtain opals at a fair cost. We ensure our opals are true weight, size and quality. Opals have more fire and color than any diamond.
